Benefits of supporting management
The strength of the support management is that it is a flexible, versatile and practical tool for each specific case. Making the support management appointment can be initiated by the person concerned, by family members or by Social Services and the Public Prosecutor, depending on certain situations. The procedure is usually streamlined and free from any frills. It is necessary that the potential beneficiary be accurately verified to determine the extent of fragility. The state administration also provides for the support management appointment, if possible favouring the persons indicated by the beneficiary or identified in the family circle.
The beneficiary of the support management - and this what makes the situation particular and distinguishes it from the outdated examples of interdiction and disabilities - is not deprived of the capacity to act, but is supported by the support manager whilst continually and independently carrying out daily activities and any other tasks that the state administration does not expressly request of the support manager.
The duties of the support manager usually concern economic management activities, such as relations with social security institutions and credit institutions (for example: asking for a disability allowances), renting buildings, connecting utilities, investing money, etc.
